Resumen
Las ciudades tienen en la actualidad un protagonismo central en las relaciones, culturales, sociales, políticas económicas, tecnológicas y se han convertido en espacios privilegiados de sociabilidad colectiva. La ciudad de Santiago del Estero, es el centro poblacional, político, comercial, administrativo, de servicios, más importantes de la provincia y las transformaciones que sufrió en las últimas décadas, se manifiestan en su forma y función. También se advierte diferenciación, en los barrios que la conforman. El presente trabajo procura brindar una mirada actualizada del sector periférico de la ciudad de Santiago del Estero, a partir de la consideración del crecimiento poblacional, el surgimiento de los barrios, la oferta en los servicios básicos de educación, salud y seguridad y la infraestructura disponible, en los 24 barrios de esta zona de expansión de la ciudad. Se trata de una realidad compleja, con diferenciación socio-territorial. Plantea como objetivos: Describir los barrios del sector periférico según las condiciones geomorfológicas del emplazamiento, la población y la vivienda y distinguir los servicios y la infraestructura básica en los veinticuatro barrios periféricos.

Abstract
The cities now have a central role in cultural, social, economic, technological relations, and have become privileged spaces of sociability. Santiago del Estero is the most important city of this province, because it has a large population, different services and a very important political, administrative and economic organization. Although the city suffers important transformations in the last decades in towards its shape and function. Therefore the majority of its neighborhoods also has change in this years. This paper attempts to explain the situation of the marginal neighborhoods of Santiago del Estero, from the consideration of: population growth, the emergence of new neighborhoods, and the offer of basic services such as education, health, safety and infrastructure available in the 24 neighborhoods. It is a complex reality from social and territorial differentiation. Main objectives: Describe the population growth, the rise of the marginal neighborhoods in the city towards the geomorphological condition, the strategic localization of the neighborhoods, the population, and the conditions of the properties. Distinguish the services and basic infrastructure in this 24 districts making the differences in between them.
