Resumen La presente investigación se propuso explorar las percepciones y vivencias de madres de bebés prematuros internados en la Unidad de Cuidados Neonatales de la Maternidad Dr. Faustino Herrera, de la ciudad de La Banda, Santiago del Estero, como así también identificar las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés que las mismas desarrollan ante esta situación específica. Como objetivos específicos se planteó conocer la relación entre la complejidad de los cuidados que requiera el bebé (intensivos, intermedios o mínimos) y las percepciones y vivencias de las madres, como así también conocer si existen diferencias entre las estrategias de afrontamiento y la complejidad de los cuidados que requiere el bebé. Participaron seis madres de prematuros, a las cuales se les administró una entrevista semi-dirigida que permitió obtener la información necesaria para responder a los objetivos planteados. Abstract This research aimed to explore the perceptions and experiences of mothers of preterm infants admitted to the Neonatal Care Maternity Dr. Faustino Herrera, the city of La Banda, Santiago del Estero, as well as identify the coping strategies stress that they develop to this specific situation. Specific objectives was raised to know the relationship between the complexity of care required by the child ( intensive, intermediate or minimum) and the perceptions and experiences of mothers ,as well as determine whether there are differences between the coping strategies and the complexity of care required by the child. They included six mothers of preemies, which were administered a semi – directed interview that yielded the information needed to meet the objectives. The results indicated that the premature birth of a child is perceived as unexpected event and an event for which no mother is prepared, with the trigger negative thoughts and emotions such as guilt or responsibility for what happened, what hinders the establishment of the mother – infant bond. Differences in the perceptions and experiences of the same in relation to the complexity of care needed by the baby, it is inferred that the same health status modulates emotions in the mother and modify their perceptions were found. Nine coping strategies (seeking spiritual support, seeking social support, positive reappraisal, distancing, seeking information, self-control, acceptance, seeking professional planning and support) were identified, the most used search for spiritual support and seeking support social.
